About Us

The Secret Tea Room was started in 2004 at 412 State Street in historic Greensboro, NC. In October 2007 the facility was purchased by Gayle Smith after the death of the previous owner. Shortly after, Gayle's daughter Whitney Perez joined in the Tea Room as the Special Events coordinator and became the lead in marketing and organizing Special Occasions for the Tea Room. Whitney has since joined in the partnership with her Mom to make the Tea Room the number one party facility for young brides and mothers to be. Gayle has had design and business experience in Greensboro for some 20 years. Her family had a restaurant while growing up in Alabama, so she feels her roots have been renewed at The Tea Room. Bo Smith adds his expertise with 22 years of experience representing one of the largest spice importers in the country. Other family members pitch in when needed. The entire family hopes you feel the warmth and freedom to dine in a quiet relaxed atmosphere at The Secret Tea Room.

The Chefs at the Tea Room are exceptional. We are now offering pastry and bakery items along with our other homemade menu selections. We are proud to offer our signature ROSEMARY CHICKEN SALAD made fresh daily. Our homemade soups are served all year. We just cannot quit making that WHITE CHILI.
